TONY MORRISON ANNOUNCES EXIT FROM GLAAD, LAUNCH OF THE MORRISON MEDIA GROUP TO ELEVATE BRANDS & PEOPLE THROUGH INNOVATIVE STORYTELLING, STRATEGY & SOCIAL IMPACT

Updated: Sep 15

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – JULY 17, 2025 – Three-time Emmy Award-winning journalist, producer, host and impact strategist, Tony Morrison, today announced his departure from the national LGBTQ media advocacy group, GLAAD, where he served as the Senior Director of Communications, to launch the Morrison Media Group (MMG) — a bold new venture focused on innovating the intersections of storytelling, strategy, and social change powered by a global network of expertise, leadership and talent.

During his transformative tenure at GLAAD, where he also served as the Supervising Producer of the GLAAD Media Awards, Morrison led major campaigns and cultural tentpole moments across news, entertainment, and digital media. In the last three years at the national nonprofit, he helped reposition GLAAD as a trusted and visible voice across industries, from red carpets to the Supreme Court, while centering LGBTQ people, stories, and solutions at the heart of national conversation. Morrison’s work amplified stories that sparked public discourse and moved policy and public perception alike.

Morrison Media Group builds on that legacy, offering solutions that pair deep cultural fluency with strategic clarity. With a focus on brand impact, visibility, and influence, MMG offers services across:

  • Creative Services – Photography, video, and design produced through MMG’s network of award-winning visual artists.

  • Media Relations & Strategic Campaigns – Coordinating with seasoned publicists, strategists, and media insiders to secure coverage, shape narratives, and launch high-impact campaigns to ensure the right story is told to the right audience at the right time.

  • Live Production & Content Development – Leveraging veteran producers and creators to produce live events and digital original series that turn stories into experiences, designed for maximum reach and cultural impact.

  • Thought Leadership & Workforce Alignment – Partnering with executives, communications strategists, and DEI experts to position leaders, brands, and teams as trusted voices, while aligning internal culture with a shared story of mission-driven impact.

MMG is not entering the market to compete — it’s here to complement. By partnering with brands, networks, nonprofits, corporate leaders and changemakers, MMG’s mandate is to scale both impact and bottom lines, while delivering visibility that drives values-aligned results.

Morrison brings with him more than a decade of experience behind the scenes at powerhouse media brands including CNN, ABC News, Good Morning America, and The Walt Disney Company, where he produced high-stakes live broadcasts, digital specials, and global fan events, including hosting the official D23 podcast and leading multi-platform launch events for Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products, Lucasfilm and Marvel. In his time as a journalist and producer, Morrison spearheaded enterprise storytelling for marquee franchises and elevated corporate belonging by launching PRIDE ABC News, ABC News Group’s first-ever employee resource group for LGBTQ journalists, which played a pivotal role in how Disney navigated challenges around Florida’s Don’t Say Gay bill in 2022.

Morrison is also known for his powerful public disclosure of living with HIV, using his platform as a Good Morning America producer to dismantle stigma and spark change.

Morrison is the recipient of multiple community and industry accolades including being named to Out Magazine’s 2024 Out100 list, PR Week’s 2023 Health Influencer 30, and is a 2023 Logo30 honoree. Across every role, Morrison has worked as a behind-the-scenes force to shift narratives, center marginalized communities, and architect culture-changing moments. Tony is where strategy meets soul — making media that matters and moments that move.

“Tony’s digital and LGBTQ storytelling has powered some of GLAAD and the broader community’s biggest victories in recent years,” said Rich Ferraro, GLAAD Chief Communications Officer and Co-Executive Producer of the GLAAD Media Awards, adding: “His dedication and innovation around expanding the power and reach of news and personal stories will no doubt continue to shape culture and media for the better.”

“Some of the most meaningful change happens off-camera, behind the curtain, and in the pitch room,” said Tony Morrison. “That’s where I’ve always done my best work — helping others shine brighter, sound bolder, and connect with other people and their communities in ways that matter. Morrison Media Group is the next evolution of that mission.”
