MMG Ends Relationship with Bank of America, Effective Immediately

NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- JANUARY 26, 2026 -- As a media and impact communications company, the Morrison Media Group (MMG) believes that where money flows matters, not just in markets, but in culture, narrative, and power. After reviewing publicly reported information about Bank of America’s recent and historical activities, we’re discontinuing our current relationship with and use of this company’s banking products in order to better align with MMG values and the communities we serve.
These activities include the bank’s documented history of financing private prison and detention operators — including companies that operate facilities used for immigration detention — followed by a recent loosening of its 2019 commitment to fully exit that sector.
These activities also include the bank’s recent sponsorship of political and media programming that has been reported to platform far-right figures and legitimize bias, misinformation, and ideologies that actively harm marginalized communities.
For MMG, these connections are not abstract. Financial institutions help shape which stories are amplified, which voices are legitimized, and which harms are normalized.
When banks appear to underwrite systems tied to incarceration, detention, or media ecosystems that fuel division and dehumanization, silence becomes complicity.
And complicity will cost lives.
MMG encourages fellow founders, creatives, nonprofits, and small businesses to evaluate their own vendor and banking relationships through a values lens. We have a choice in whom we do business with and whose products we use to advance our missions and visions. Where our dollars live is where our power lives — and no fee, convenience, or growth strategy is worth sustaining harm.
Now is not the time for quiet compliance.
It is the time for values-aligned action.
